Chesapeake's Attractions
Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is located in southeastern Virginia (Chesapeake and Suffolk) and northeastern North Carolina. There is a 1 mile hiking/biking trail from the park's Western side following the Washington Ditch, constructed by George Washington to drain and clear swamp land, and leading in to lake Drummond. Boat and canoe tours are available on the lake. See the Web Site for many additional hiking, biking, boating and wildlife observation options. Chesapeake Conference Center 20,000-square-foot, fully carpeted Presidential Ballroom--Virginia's largest. 2.9 meeting/banquet rooms designed for maximum flexibility. State-of-the-art audio/visual and lighting systems. 340 free parking spaces on site. Within walking distance of 650 hotel rooms (350 adjacent). Area's best variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment. 12 miles and 15 minutes from Norfolk International Airport. Chesapeake City Park This 75-acre site at 500 Greenbrier Parkway has 45 acres of open space with the remainder rows of reforested pine trees. Electric and water service is in place to support outdoor events and large outings. The site is divided by roadways into segments which may be rented according to the space needed. Fees pertain only to reservations and not to drop-in use. City Park is the location of Chesapeake Skate Park and the site of the annual Chesapeake Jubilee. A comfort station and concession building are new additions. On three acres of City Park is Chesapeake Fun Forest, the ultimate children's playground, imagination center and family adventure area! The Great Bridge Lock Park Visit this 19 acre wooded park to learn about the intercoastal waterway, admire the luxury yachts that constantly come through the locks, study the hydraulic engineering used to let boats navigate what would be whitewater and falls without the locks, or just enjoy a picnic in the idyllic wooded setting. Chesapeake Agricultural Producer's Association Interested in agriculture? Here are a collection of area farms showcasing agricultural technology and hosting tours. Many have special areas of interest to young children as well.
